class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe foundations for <strong>Raidermoto <\/strong>began during the mid 1970\u2019s when team principal Maurice Rissman traded contemporary employment opportunities to pursue a career involving anything relating to automotive competition.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d9ace20 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"d9ace20\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a50b7c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a50b7c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tInitially entering Drag Racing Maurice built and raced highly modified cars &amp; bikes taking many victories and twice breaking national class records. \u00a0Maurice\u2019s engineering creativity attracted interest from the circuit racing fraternity for whom he designed, built, and modified, several avant-garde <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportssedan.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>sports-sedans<\/u><\/strong><\/a> , a category with almost limitless modification allowances. \u00a0During 1978 the engineering freedoms afforded to this field of racing lead to the design of what was arguably Australia\u2019s first full <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autozine.org\/technical_school\/chassis\/tech_chassis.html\"><strong><u>space-framed<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 racing sedan, based upon a 1979 Ford Falcon.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-86d6340 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"86d6340\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element brief stint with Australian Group C<a href=\"http:\/\/www.groupc.org.au\"> Touring Cars<\/a>, including the infamous \u2018wall-eating\u2019 John English\/Paul Gulson Pye Audio Ford XD Falcon, and then Group A Touring Cars with Mitsubishi Motors Japan, Maurice entered the international arena of Sports Prototype (Le Mans type sports-cars) working for the fabled <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rothmans_International_plc\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Rothmans Porsche Team<\/strong><\/span><\/a> , and later and Trust Racing Team (based in Chiba Japan).\u00a0 Duties in Japan included involvement with developing Toyota\u2019s Group A Corolla in a covert satellite operation contracted through the Trust Racing organisation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bea7512 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bea7512\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c25681c e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"c25681c\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b5033d2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b5033d2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In 1988 the <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> (RMS) name &amp; logo was conceived and officially registered.\u00a0 The team\u2019s first contract was to support the current Australian Driver\u2019s Champion, Rohan Onslow, at the Adelaide Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. \u00a0This successful one-off outing led to a partnership that was to dominate the inaugural 1989 Formula Holden Championship.\u00a0 With Onslow at the wheel, the <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ralt.co.uk\"><strong><u>Ralt<\/u><\/strong> <\/a>RT20 claimed more pole positions, fastest laps and outright wins than any other team or driver.\u00a0 The team ultimately claimed championship victory and back-to-back \u2018Gold Star\u2019 Drivers Championship titles for Onslow.\u00a0 Acknowledging Onslow\u2019s successful season, Bob Forbes, owner of the GIO Racing Team, enlisted the young champion for his 1989 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bathurstregion.com.au\/mountpanorama\/?id=106\"><strong><u>Bathurst<\/u><\/strong><strong><u> 1000<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0assault.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-256b5ab e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"256b5ab\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5385071 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"5385071\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1990 saw <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> contracted to Australian Nissan Motorsport operation to orchestrate the entry of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mark_Skaife\"><strong><u>Mark Skaife<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0into open-wheel racing.\u00a0 The same year also saw <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> take control over development of the Chris Hocking Formula Holden programme.\u00a0 Based upon the March 87B F3000 chassis, the locally produced vehicle was in desperate need of a driver that was not only fast, but also capable of developing something from scratch.\u00a0 The former Elfin Sports Cars factory driver, Mark McLaughlin, arguably the countries most experienced open-wheel driver, was secured to race and develop the new chassis.\u00a0 Despite a shoe-string budget the team achieved limited success but the much-promised funding failed to materialise as did clearance on all Chris Hocking\u2019s cheques.\u00a0 With the writing clearly on the wall for Hocking\u2019s ambitious programme, RMS and McLaughlin walked away penniless for its troubles as the receivers walked in, soon making rubber cheques to RMS the least of Hocking\u2019s problems.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bc2a844 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bc2a844\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ffb78eb e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"ffb78eb\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWith the legendary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jackbrabham.com\"><strong><u>Sir Jack Brabham<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0lending support to the category, 1991 saw naming rights change from Formula Holden to Formula Brabham and included guaranteed television from Australian\u2019s Channel Nine Network. \u00a0After collapse of the ill-fated Hocking programme, McLaughlin was drafted into the <a href=\"https:\/\/raltracing.com\"><strong><u>Ralt Cars Australia<\/u><\/strong><\/a> squad for the remaining races of the 1990 championship.\u00a0 Not confident in the team\u2019s potential, McLaughlin and the teams sponsor, international skin care giant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thalgo.com.au\">Thalgo Cosmetics<\/a>, entered into negotiations with <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> to entered two cars for their 1991 Australian Drivers Championship assault\u00a0 The lead chassis was a purpose built aluminium monocoque designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gary_Anderson_(motorsport)\"><strong><u>Gary Anderson<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and manufactured in the UK by Spa Engineering, while a <a href=\"https:\/\/raltracing.com\"><strong><u>Ralt<\/u><\/strong> <\/a>RT21 was purchased as the number two chassis.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8604d1d e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"8604d1d\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e3004cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e3004cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWith McLaughlin the new team quickly set about establishing lap records unequalled even by today\u2019s infinitely more refined and developed Formula 4000\u2019s, all of which enjoy radial tyres, full <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autozine.org\/technical_school\/chassis\/tech_chassis2.htm#Carbon-fiber\"><strong><u>carbon-fibre <\/u><\/strong><\/a>monocoques and significantly increased horsepower.\u00a0 After a rigorous four week testing programme at Sydney\u2019s Eastern Creek Raceway, McLaughlin recorded a stunning 1m:22.07s lap, a time that would place him mid field in today\u2019s A1GP events.\u00a0 It\u2019s also a lap time that current F4000 drivers with the aid of modern technical benefits and 14 years development are yet to achieve.\u00a0 Unfortunately for McLaughlin, the Spa\u2019s aluminium monocoque was to incur a major defect which , together with a narrow-minded autocracy, effectively eliminated any chance of <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> winning the championship and McLaughlin his richly deserved title. <strong><u>Read the Demise Team Thalgo <\/u><\/strong>Appalled at the narrow-mindedness of those that controlled Formula Brabham, Raider Motorsport left the category stating that \u201cif the power\u2019s that be wanted to keep the category in the past, that\u2019s exactly where it\u2019ll end up!\u201d\u00a0 The statement proved rather prophetic as the category is now but a memory.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8fa053c e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"8fa053c\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-00f5fa6 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"00f5fa6\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb0d382 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb0d382\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t1992 RMS was once again united with Rohan Onslow when engaged by the Bob Forbes Corporation (GIO Racing) to undertake an R&amp;D programme that led to construction of the first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.v8supercar.com.au\"><strong><u>V8 Supercar<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Although intended only as a test mule, the <strong>Raider Motorsport<\/strong> designed &amp; built Group A VN commodore went on to become not only the first ever sedan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waynegardner.com\"><strong><u>Wayne<\/u><\/strong><strong><u> Gardner<\/u><\/strong><\/a> raced, but it was also the first of many V8supercars to be owned and raced by the <strong><u>Coca-Cola Amatil<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0 sponsored Wayne Gardner Racing (WGR) organisation. \u00a0Ironically, it was also the race car in which WGR and Wayne \u2018Captain Chaos\u2019 Gardner himself achieved his teams highest result, despite the many years, the many chassis\u2019, and the many millions of dollars spent building their own cars.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-933fe43 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"933fe43\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b7841ca elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"b7841ca\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demo.mediatrenz.dev\/raidermoto\/wp-content\/plugins\/elementor\/assets\/images\/placeholder.png\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b17e0e4 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"b17e0e4\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8a15ecf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8a15ecf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>However, at the time <strong>Raider Motorsport <\/strong>considered Bob Forbes\u2019 decision to lease the mule for the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bathurst_1000\"><strong><u>Bathurst 1000<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0a fatal error; as it was not meant for racing, it was untried and still needed months of development, most of all it required tyres of completely different construction to that used by all other teams of the day.\u00a0 Although many were beautifully presented and fabricated by true craftsman, from a technical perspective the typical race sedan chassis in 1992 was crude and archaic.\u00a0 Predominately owned and managed by drivers of the 70\u2019s and 80\u2019s, the category was a closed shop, both literally and metaphorically, and especially to technical innovation, a fact made strikingly clear at Bathurst scrutineering when the head scrutineer, Frank Lowndes, father of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craiglowndes.com.au\"><strong><u>Craig Lowndes<\/u><\/strong><\/a> , objected to the cars participation due to the design of its roll cage which used a number of ancillary elements to improve structural rigidity and torsional stiffness, the two most basic engineering factors necessary to the modern racing car.\u00a0 Offended that an outsider had the gall to produce something unconventional, officialdom, in a state of indignation, made a classically\u00a0 revealing statement; \u201cif this is so good why hasn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brock05.com\"><strong><u>Brock<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsv.com.au\"><strong><u>Holden team<\/u><\/strong><\/a> done it!\u201d\u00a0 As it turned out, Peter (Brock) was the person most interested in the car, wondering into the garage frequently, full of enthusiastic discussion and inquiry.\u00a0 A year or so latter Brock employed an ex-European open-wheel engineer that built for him a car using similar methodology and the Australian motoring press heralded its arrival with multi-page editorials and photographic centrespreads calling it \u201cBrock\u2019s Supercar\u201d.\u00a0 The methodology of this and of those that copied \u2018Brock\u2019s Supercar\u2019 chassis went on to become the new standard of design which developed into what is considered contemporary amongst all of today\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.v8supercar.com.au\"><strong><u>V8 Supercar<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0chassis builders.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The foundations for
