1990 Ducati 851 SP2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ducati 851 SP2 \u2013 The first ever Ducati WSBK homologation road racer!<\/p>\n

The Ducati 851 SP2 was Ducati\u2019s first-ever homologation special built specifically to qualify for the 1990 World Superbike series. With eight victories in the 1990 season, Raymond Roche won the first World Superbike Championship title for Ducati on one of these limited production builds. The following year Doug Polen repeated his victory on the 851 SP3, and as history has shown, Ducati would become the team to beat for the next 20 + years, and this is the bike that started it all.<\/p>\n

Those not familiar with the SP2, it\u2019s important to not get this famous model confused with the 851 of the same year. Although titled 851, the SP2 uses an 888cc engine with H-section Pankl con-rods, 300-watt alternator, and two injectors per cylinder. The SP2 has a close ratio gearbox, high spec cams, larger 33mm & 29mm valves, and 45mm Termignoni exhausts. Chassis improvements included an aluminium rear subframe, upside-down \u00d6hlins front forks, \u00d6hlins rear shock, and fully floating Brembo cast-iron front discs. Due to its high specification & build cost, a new SP2 cost circa 23kUSD in 1990, and today command prices of between 30 – 35k USD, and 18 – 25k GBP!<\/p>\n

Ducati built only 380 851 SP2\u2019s and this is #118. As the images suggest, this is a truly spectacular example, completely unrestored and with only 19,000 kms use in its 30 years. Unlike most SP2\u2019s this bike retains the OEM mufflers and brackets, which are simply impossible to find today. This bike is ASI certified, includes both original keys and will receive new cam belts and a full service before delivery.
