1926 Moto Guzzi Sport 13<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moto Guzzi released its first motorcycle in 1921, and throughout the 20\u2019s made its name racing it\u2019s products using their somewhat unique OHC engines; the Moto Guzzi name quickly became a force to reckon with in TT races.<\/p>\n

In the 1926 lightweight TT Championship factory Pietro Ghersi was credited with the fastest lap, finishing second outright only to be disqualified for using a different brand of spark plug to that used in practice! In 1935 Stanley Woods won the Lightweight TT with a spring frame single Moto Guzzi, and the following day Woods won the Senior race on a Guzzi twin!<\/p>\n

Design of the Sport 13 engine can be traced back to the early 20\u2019s, but the Sport model was not introduced until 1926\/7, replacing the hugely popular Normale that ran from 1923. The first production Sport was finished in green with gold pin striping, changing to red from 1928 onwards.<\/p>\n

The Sport has a unique engine with its horizontal cylinder, radial finning to enhance cooling, and the large but thin exposed flywheel sits inward to enable a more narrow main bearing centre. The Sports frame was quite wide with braced front down tubes that provides a low and ridged position for the engine and gearbox, features held responsible for the Sports excellent road holding and handling.<\/p>\n

The Sport 13 weighs a diminutive 130 kg and has a top speed of about 100 km\/h, something breathtakingly fast for early 20\u2019s! Total production of the Sport, between 1923 and 1927, was only 4107 machines, and finding one in original condition today is extremely rare.<\/p>\n
