1936 Peugeot 302 Coach

The Peugeot 302 was a mid-weight saloon introduced to the world at the 1936 Paris Motor Show. Effectively a shorter, smaller engined version of the 402, which was launched a year earlier.<\/p>\n

The aerodynamic styling of the larger 402 was enthusiastically received by the market, but it was half a class larger than the market leader, Citro\u00ebn\u2019s Traction Avant, which had in many ways rewritten the rule book when launched in 1934. Citroen was one of the first to use the same platform to create different models, and in the late 30\u2019s they supplied the Avant in a range of different engine sizes and wheelbase lengths. Peugeot\u2019s 302 could compete more directly with the Citro\u00ebn, and was better placed to cope with the economic aftermath the 1929 financial collapse. Tightening of belts hinted a future for mid-sized saloons, but by the time the 302 was actually launched the country was in a state of industrial turmoil and heightened political uncertainty; as a consequence production amounted to only 25,083 units and ended 18 months after release.<\/p>\n

This particular example underwent restoration around 2009 and has been maintained in perfect condition. Priced well below replacement cost buyers will need to allow for shipping and arrival charges.<\/p>\n
