In October 1991, Honda released the world\u2019s first and only oval piston motorcycle, the NR750, AKA RC40. Easily the most exotic and most expensive production bike ever built by any Japanese brand, embracing a level of tech which, even today, seems extreme.<\/p>\n

The NR750 ushered in many new innovative technologies, materials and designs. By the time of its release, Honda held more than 200 patents over the NR750\u2019s engine alone!! This was the Japanese sportsbike to be fitted with fully mapped multipoint fuel injection, and the first from any country to use upside-down forks, carbon-fibre bodywork, an incredible amount of titanium, inside engine and out, side-mounted radiators and under-seat exhausts.<\/p>\n

Design of the NR750 was the work of Mitsuyoshi Kohama, and 30 plus year later the NR is still considered one of the most seductive pieces of two-wheeled art ever built. No greater praise can be given than the fact Massimo Tamburini, father of Ducati\u2019s legendary 916 Superbike, copied the NR in his design of the now immortal 916 Ducati.<\/p>\n
