1993 Ducati 888 SP5<\/strong><\/p>\n

1993 was the final year of production for the model that saved the factory from extension, the 851. The final Sport Production model, the 888 SP5, was mostly based on the 888 SPS and as a consequence everything high-spec remaining on the Bologna shelves went into the SP5, such as the higher performance SPS engine that enjoyed twin injectors, pankl con-rods, and close-ratio gearbox, but there was no improvement to the SP4 cooling system..<\/p>\n

For the frame & suspension, the former changed from white to bronze, as did the wheels change from black to the same bronze. Showa front fork assembly replaced the more expensive Ohlin\u2019s, and carbon Termignoni cans replaced the former aluminium units. The rear brake changed from solid to fully floating, and both ends received braided-steel brake lines. While Ducati has continued with their marketing strategy of producing limited race-orientated builds, enthusiasts and Ducatista believe the 888 range of SPS models were the \u2018real-deal\u2019, far harder-edged, loud, cantankerous, a genuine road-going race bike. Moreover, unlike later \u2018limited production\u2019 models, far fewer number of the 851\/888 SPS example were produced. Only 500 888 SP5\u2019s were produced, making them rare and among the best machines money could buy in their day.<\/p>\n

The example being offered here is build #194 and presents in spectacular condition with only a fraction over 3,000k\u2019s of use.<\/p>\n
